LEVEL 3 FESTIVAL 2023
Building on the success of the 2022 hybrid launch, the third Level 3 festival took place both online and across three physical locations. The festival showcased playable artworks by artists who identify as autistic, learning disabled, or neurodivergent (A/LD/ND), offered accessible workshops, VR installations, and talks and panels featuring the artists and festival curators. Through the course of the three events, visitors created 3D models, learnt the basics of Blender , 3D scanning, Play maker and unity and contributed to the creation of a festival game where all of their creations are showcased.

Like every iteration, the 2023 festival development was overseen by the Level 3 committee - a group of A/LD/ND people with a range of different access needs. This committee exists to ensure the festival is thematically, contextually, culturally, and physically accessible to as wide an audience as possible. while around 15% of people globally are neurodivergent, these communities continue to face exclusion from mainstream arts spaces and digital creative industries. In the UK alone, autistic and learning disabled people are significantly underrepresented in cultural programming despite evidence that inclusive arts participation can improve wellbeing and social connection.Through partnerships with ScreenSouth, Hastings Commons, and Colonnade House, the festival expanded the Level 3 network and subscriber base, going beyond previous editions to celebrate, promote, and enrich the culture of A/LD/ND communities. The festival also advanced the accessibility of playful media, helping to reshape how inclusive digital art experiences are created and shared.
